Basketball is one of the major games in Mayo College. There are five basketball courts in Mayo out of which 1 is synthetic (4 in Senior School and 1 in Junior School) where about 50 students are trained intensively by qualified coaches. Mayo College Basketball teams participates in IPSC, District, State and National level school tournaments and in some selected invitational tournaments as well. The school also organizes Inter-house tournament for Oman House and Senior Houses in different categories every year. We also organize basketball match in floodlight.
Basketball as a sport helps students in keeping good health by developing stamina and strength. As an extracurricular activity, it builds character and leadership skills among the players. The emphasis on teamwork and unity teaches players the principles of working with others towards a common goal while demonstrating the rewards of supporting each other through both triumphs and defeats.
Mayo has qualified coaches to train the students. Under the guidance of the coaches the boys learn not just the sport but they also learn to take up responsibilities and develop the much needed quality of being a true sportsperson. Mayo organizes special Coaching Camps and invites National and International level coaches to give the students an edge in the sport.
